60-Year old William Seigler, who was convicted on three counts of "Attempted Rape of a Child" in Rutherford County in 2008, will remain behind bars.

This week the State of Tennessee answered his recently filed appeal suggesting that his sentencing of 12-years behind bars was unfair because he was a first time offender. According to the sentence, Seigler will have to serve nearly 11-years in prison before he is eligible for parole.

In an appeal filed by the sex offender, the trial courts denied a "Motion to Correct his Sentence." The denial was confirmed this week (7/7/2015) by the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals in Nashville. His next eligible parole hearing will be in September of 2016.

In the original court case, the Appellant was indicted on five charges for the rape of a child, a class A felony, but pled guilty to attempted rape of a child, a Class B felony. The sentencing range for a standard Range I offender for a Class B felony is not less than eight (8) years nor more than twelve (12) years. The subject received a 12-year sentence.

The case was investigated by Murfreesboro Police Detective Tommy Roberts in 2007. At the time of his arrest, Seigler lived in the 1400 block of North Tennessee Boulevard. He was accused of engaging in sexual contact with a girl from age 9 to age 12. Evidently, he knew the girl for several years prior to the charges being filed.

Today, the victim is almost 27-years of age. Apparently, the incidents occurred between 1997 and 2001.

Again, Seigler will remain behind bars and will be eligible for parole in September of 2016. Once released from prison, he will be on the Sex Offender Registry and under community supervision for life.
