Tennessee's Cripple Creek Cloggers, headquartered in Murfreesboro, will represent the U.S. in the International Folk Festival in Zagreb, Croatia during July 17th through the 24th.

Cripple Creek's Founder Steve Cates said, "They will join 30 Croatian troupes and others from Argentina, Brazil, Indonesia, Italy, Paraguay and Macedonia to celebrate with performances in various locations throughout Zagreb and in nearby towns and villages along the Adriatic. Sarah & The Romans, a bluegrass band from nearby Rijeck, will accompany them for performances of traditional Appalachian-style square dancing with a clogging step."

As you recall, the Cripple Creek Cloggers just celebrated their 50th anniversary. The were formed as a 4-H Share the Fun activity at Kittrell School.

Because of their touring to represent the U.S. in international folkloric festivals in other countries, they, along with the help of many persons in the community, organized International FolkFest in 1982.

Cates noted, "Planning is being done now for the 2018 International FolkFest here on June 10th through 18th."

Cates commented, "Among troupes being considered for participation are those from Ukraine, Poland, Italy, England, New Zealand and Sweden."

Cripple Creek Cloggers open their practices to others who are interested in learning. There is no charge for participation.

The next meeting is Sunday, Sept. 10, at 220 E. Vine St., Murfreesboro. They are already planning to represent the U.S. at festivals in Norway in November.
