Friday night, December 6th is the date to save as Santa arrives to light the official Rutherford County Christmas Tree at Main Street’s annual Celebrate Christmas Downtown festivities.

Music begins on the East side of the Courthouse at 5:30pm followed by a program beginning at 6 which includes lots of local talent.  Performers include Homer Pittard Campus School Choir, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Choir, Dance Theatre of Tennessee performing a snippet from the Nutcracker, Bradley School of the Arts, Cason Lane Academy and The Dancers’ School.

“We are thrilled to have Larry Flowers of WSMV Channel 4 join us for this festive holiday tradition,” states Kathleen Herzog, Director of Main Street. Another special guest performing at the annual event will be the singing sensation, Murfreesboro’s own Schyler Dixon.

“Rutherford County Mayor Ernest Burgess, and Murfreesboro Mayor Tommy Bragg will assist Santa when he arrives to light the official Rutherford County Christmas Tree,” continued Herzog.

Major League Baseball pitcher, David Price, a Murfreesboro native, will also be on hand to help Santa light the tree. Santa will be available to hear children’s wishes inside the Courthouse after he pulls the big switch to light the tree.

In addition to this night with Santa, the following Saturday and each weekend before Christmas, Santa and Mrs. Claus will be in the historic Rutherford County Courthouse.  On Friday nights they will be in the Courthouse from 6 til 8 pm.  On Saturdays Santa and Mrs. Claus will be welcoming children of all ages from noon til 4pm. Professional photography by Shacklett’s will be available in the Courthouse Friday Dec. 13 and Friday Dec. 20.

Main Street will provide free horse-drawn carriage rides on December 6 from 5:30 til 8:30. Free carriages rides will be available on the next two Friday nights as well: December 13 and December 20 from 5:30 til 8:30pm.

“Celebrate Christmas Downtown is possible because of the commitment of our sponsors and support of our volunteers,” states Herzog.  “Murfreesboro Electric Department has been the major sponsor for this holiday event for many years and is supported by the Rutherford County Government, Murfreesboro City Schools, City Auto, The Daily News Journal and WGNS Radio.  Main Street could not produce this holiday celebration for our children and their families if these community-minded companies did not provide the financial support and volunteer time,” states Kathleen Herzog, Director of Main Street: Murfreesboro/Rutherford County, Inc.
