You may recall in August of 2012, the Rutherford County Commission approved an idea set forth by Rutherford County Mayor Ernest Burgess to hire a Deputy Mayor. Now, that idea has come to fruition. Retired U.S. Army Col. Jeffrey L. Davidson has been appointed as deputy to the mayor for Rutherford County. His first day on the job is today (Monday). The county mayor position is of course an elected position and the deputy mayor position is a position that was filled by the county human resource department and approved by the mayor. Davidson was the Inspector General for the Tennessee National Guard.

Davidson will conduct county department consultation work, and act as a liaison between the mayor and elected commissioners, among other duties. The annual salary for the new position, as approved by the full commission last year, is $80,630.

Looking into the past of Col. Davidson it was confirmed that he has many years of positive community service starting with his award of Eagle Scout many years ago. Since that time he has served as chief of staff at the U.S. Army Armor Center and Fort Knox in Kentucky. The Eagleville resident was also a senior military advisor to the Iraqi Joint Force Headquarters in Baghdad. Davidson, who is a highly decorated officer, is an MTSU graduate.
