Discovery Center's "Science of Music" Exhibit Open

The Discovery Center invites guests to learn some of the surprising ways science and music connect at its Science of Music exhibit, opened this Saturday (1/20/2018).

Feel the rhythm through the drums, find the pitch with the pipe organ, and take the stage in this interactive exploration of sound. More information is available at www.explorethedc.org/scienceofmusic.

This year visitors can expect to see returning favorites like the drum pad room, guitar kiosk, performance stage and a "Chladni Plate" that helps illustrate the effects of vibrations on mechanical surfaces.

Special Opening Day Activities (included with admission)

Saturday, Jan. 20, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.

  • Synesthesia Activity (perceiving sound as colors) - All day
  • Build Your Own Harmonica - All day
  • Musical Storytime at 11 a.m.
  • String Quartet at 1 p.m.
  • Sound Experiments (demonstrations on how sound travels and how soundproofing works) at 3 p.m.

The Science of Music exhibit is included with general admission and free for members.

The Discovery Center at Murfree Spring is a hands-on, environmental, cultural and educational museum located in the heart of Middle Tennessee. More than 120,000 children and families visit annually, exploring exhibits and participating in programs that promote STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts & math) education.
