The Murfreesboro Post reports that Rutherford County District Attorney Jennings Jones is set to provide assistance to a group seeking the ouster of suspended and jailed Sheriff Robert Arnold.

Jones said he has received a written request from Michelle Blaylock-Howser, the attorney for a group of residents who filed an ouster complaint against Arnold, and will help in the capacity she sought.

"The assistance Ms. Blaylock-Howser has requested is with issuance of subpoenas and coordination with federal authorities," Jones said. "She has told me that she wishes to continue to guide and argue the ouster."

No date has been set for the next hearing in the ouster case, and Jones wasn't sure whether it would be resolved before a criminal case against Arnold who faces a Feb. 7, 2017 trial on federal corruption charges.

Jones said he will not become an official party to the lawsuit, nor will he try to take over the case, since Blaylock-Howser filed the complaint initially.

A group of Rutherford County residents filed the ouster suit against Arnold shortly after he was jailed on a bond revocation. Davidson County Chancellor Bill Young, who is hearing the ouster case, then ordered Arnold to be suspended without pay until the matter is finalized.
