Dog Fraud Hits Murfreesboro

A 23-year-old Murfreesboro woman has been swindled out of $750... all for a new puppy.

The woman told police that she found the dog online and made contact with the seller. Because the dog was out of town, the owner said that they would send the dog to her via airplane. As if all made sense, the victim agreed to make a $300 down payment through Amazon gift cards. After she sent the initial payment, the online dog vendor said that more money was needed. The woman then sent an additional $450 in hopes of seeing her new puppy sooner than later. Eventually, her account was blocked as she tried to make more payments via PayPal.

As luck would have it, the dog was never booked on an airline and the female is now out some $750. One police report later and the dog is nowhere to be found, nor is the seller.

No arrests have been made as of August 13th.
