“It’s Duck Season in Middle Tennessee!” announced Queen of the Quackers Coreen King. The Child Advocacy Center is hosting the 7th Annual Duck Derby on May 17, 2014 at SportsCom. The Quack Attack Team will race 12,000 rubber ducks down the Duck-O-Bunga slide into SportsCom's swimming pool at 120 DeJarnette Lane, Murfreesboro.
The Corporate Duck Race will begin at 1:00 p.m., the first heats will begin at 2:00 p.m., and the winner’s race will be held at 4:04 p.m.
The owners of the first ducks to cross the finish line will win duck-tabulous prizes, with a grand prize of $5,000! The Child Advocacy Center is partnering with the Rutherford Parent Spring Kids Fest. On race day, the Spring Kids Fest will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and will include local vendor booths, awesome prize giveaways, inflatables, live stage performances, free face painting, and more!
Child Advocacy Center Director Sharon De Boer stated, “The Child Advocacy Center is thrilled to partner with Rutherford Parent Magazine for a duck-tastic children’s event that the entire family will enjoy!”
Proceeds from this event will fund services for child abuse victims. In the last 14 years, the Child Protective Investigative Team has worked together to investigate and prosecute 9,665 child abuse cases and assisted over13,500 individuals in Rutherford and Cannon Counties.
The Department of Children’s Services protects children, law enforcement arrests perpetrators, the District Attorney’s Office prosecutes and incarcerates offenders, while the Child Advocacy Center helps children and families heal from the trauma.
In addition, the Child Advocacy Center assists drug endangered children and trains adults how to protect children from child sexual abuse utilizing the “Darkness to Light” training curriculum. In the last two years over 2,300 parents, grandparents, and professionals have been trained.
