Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department's Fire Marshals' Office is investigating an intentionally set fire Monday morning. The FMO was called to investigate a suspicious fire at a duplex located at 1561 Center Point Drive after MFRD units responded to the address around 6:00 pm Sunday night.

When Ladder 8, Rescue 8, and Engine 1 arrived on scene, they were directed to the affected unit in the duplex. Crews discovered light smoke in the unit. According to Captain/Shift Inspector Joe Bell, there was a small amount of fire on the den floor. The fire was quickly extinguished and crews ventilated the unit. The victim told Murfreesboro Police Officer Matthew Simmons when he arrived home, he smelled an odor of chemicals and when he tried to open the door, it was locked. He then reported smelling smoke and hearing the back door shut. Police report there was no sign of forced entry.

Assistant Fire Marshal Carl Peas was called to the scene to conduct an investigation. "It was clear that the fire was intentionally set," said Peas. "However, we will not be releasing any further details at this time."
