Earth Day on the Murfreesboro square was a big success on the Murfreesboro Square Saturday. The theme was water and luckily, the water in the form of rain held off during the record crowd event this year.

The event this year featured "LIVE" music, free food and vendor booths for everybody. It was well organized by Amy Byers with Murfreesboro Electric.

Also on Saturday, local residents enjoyed the 3rd annual Murfreesboro Breakfast Rotary Club Backyard BBQ Festival. The event featured a nationally recognized Kansas City Barbecue Society-sanctioned BBQ competition.

Some of the activities at the event included a corn hole tournament, rib eating contest, and even a Rutherford County High School culinary cook off contest.

The culinary programs at Stewarts Creek, Blackman, Oakland and Smyrna High School competed in a steak cook-off, judged by the same professional judges of the BBQ contest.
