La Vergne and Eagleville will have new mayor and there's a new state senator for Rutherford County. Those are the local headlines from this year's record turnout.

Nearly 58-percent of Rutherford County's registered voters cast ballots in this year's November elections.

There were 66,256 early and absentee votes cast with 33,346 ballots tallied on election day at the 28 county vote centers.

Dawn White is the newest member of the Tennessee Senate. She defeated Democratic challenger Kelly Northcutt 57% to 41%. (White 36,553, Northcutt 25,917).

All incumbent state representatives won re-election. Tim Rudd in District 34, Bryan Terry in District 48 and Mike Sparks in District 49. Republican Charlie Baum defeated Democrat Deanna Osborne 59% to 41% in the race to replace Dawn White in District 37, who ran for state senate.

In La Vergne, incumbent Mayor Dennis Waldron fell to challenger Jason Cole by just over 16-hundred votes.

Eagleville will have a new mayor as well. Chad Leeman defeated incumbent Travis Brown 148 votes to 127.

Matt Church and Melisa Brown won seats on the LaVergne Board of Alderman. Church received 3,703 votes and Brown 3,096. She finished 162 votes ahead of Steve Noe.

Bill Tollett was the top vote getter for Eagleville council. He received 212 votes. Brandon Emamalie garnered 154 votes and Jason Blair 135 votes. That's seven votes ahead of fourth place finisher Jonathan Armstrong and and 11 ahead of Richard Inglis, who finished fifth in voting.

In Smyrna, candidates for mayor and town council ran unopposed. Mary Esther Reed was re-elected along with town councilmen Marc Adkins, H.G. Cole Jr. and Gerry Short.

Republican Governor-elect Bill Lee won Rutherford County, as did U.S. Senator-elect Marsha Blackburn. Lee beat Democrat Karl Dean 58% to 42% in county voting. Blackburn eclipsed former Democratic Governor Phil Bredesen 52% to 46% here on her way to Washington.

Republican Congressman Scott DesJarlais defeated Democratic challenger Mariah Phillips to win re-election in Rutherford and 15 Tennessee counties.
