Shanterrica Madden, the woman imprisoned for killing MTSU basketball player Tina Stewart, has asked for a mistrial. The basis of the request revolves around FaceBook.

Madden’s defense attorney suggested a retrial is needed because Judge Don Ash was a “friend” of MTSU basketball coach Rick Insell on FaceBook.

Madden is represented by attorney Joe Brandon. The request was filed in the Court of Criminal Appeals in Nashville.

In May of 2012, it took a Chattanooga jury just a few hours to reach a verdict in the Tina Stewart murder trial. Circuit Court Judge Don Ash delivered the jury's verdict against Shanterrica Madden.

Madden is currently serving a 29-year sentence that was handed down by the courts in July of 2012. Tina Stewart, who was the roommate of Madden, was killed in 2011.

As far as the attempt to have the case go back before the courts, nothing has been decided at this point by the courts in Nashville, as it was just filed on Wednesday.
