Local nonprofit Special Kids will hold its Annual Friendraiser Banquet and 15 Year Anniversary Celebration presented by Demos’ Restaurant and Murfreesboro Medical Clinic & Surgicenter (MMC) on Thursday, September 5, the exact day of the organization’s grand opening 15 years ago. The event will once again be held at World Outreach Church in Murfreesboro.

In the last 15 years of service, Special Kids has served over 2,300 children with special needs across the middle Tennessee region. The Annual Friendraiser Banquet will celebrate the milestones reached since Special Kids opened its doors in 1998 with just one child and cast the vision for the subsequent 15 years and beyond.

“Celebrating 15 years of service in middle Tennessee is a great accomplishment for Special Kids,” said Special Kids Executive Director Chris Truelove. “Sometimes we get so focused on working to accomplish the mission we forget to stop long enough to thank Jesus for what He has done for the children and staff members who serve here. We want to take time at this year’s Friendraiser Banquet to celebrate this anniversary and look forward to many more years of service.”

The night will include a silent auction, dinner provided by Demos’ Restaurant, and a program featuring children who have graduated from Special Kids over the years, highlighted with an appearance from special guest speaker Lisa Whelchel. Whelchel played the role of “Blair” in the 1980s sitcom “The Facts of Life,” but is more recently known for placing second on the reality TV Show “Survivor: Philippines” and her best-selling books for children and adults.

The annual event is an opportunity for individuals and businesses within the community to invest in the life-altering work at Special Kids. Presenting sponsors for this year’s event will be Demos’ Restaurant and MMC, and additional sponsors will include AdamsPlace, Bridgestone Americas Trust Fund, Newk’s Eatery, TNT Battery, VIP Murfreesboro Magazine, and ValuMint.
