Middle Tennessee Christian School was closed on Tuesday as a freshman student was laid to rest. Friends and family of Paul Thomas Batey said their final goodbye's as they met at North Boulevard Church of Christ and then took the slow ride to a small cemetery in Milton, Tennessee around noon on Tuesday.

Batey, who played football at MTCS, was baptized by his father in the Jordan River just a few months before his death. The Jordan River is where Jesus was said to be baptized by John the Baptist.

Batey died after doctors found out that he had a heart condition that sent him to the hospital about two weeks ago. The young man who was 15 at the time of his death this past Friday, is survived by his parents Teb and Kari Mathis Batey; a brother, Houston Batey and two sisters, Kate Batey and Taylor Beth Batey all of Milton; grandparents, Tom and Anne Francis Batey of Murfreesboro and Dr. Kathy Mathis of MTSU from Lascassas; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Dr. William H. "Bill" Mathis Jr.
