Friends of Stones River National Battlefield use Grant to Remember African American History

The Friends of Stones River National Battlefield in Murfreesboro have been awarded the National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF) "Every Day Event" Grant for 2016.

The Friends of Stones River National Battlefield competed against 140 other applicants for this honor and the $2000 that follows. The grant is a partnership between NEEF and Toyota Motor Sales USA, Inc. and will be used to continue their efforts to tell the story of the Battle of Stones River and support future African American History events at the Battlefield.

Board member Mark Friedman and his committee planned the recent events of African American History month at the Stones River National Battlefield. These events included sharing the story of the African American community once known as Cemetery, retelling of growing up in Cemetery from Anthony Johnson (below) and Boe Washington (above), and living history presentations by the United States Colored Troops and Sgt. William Holland.
