School Resource Officers will enjoy "good food and fun" during Wings and Rings Tuesday while asking Toot's diners to support Special Olympians to compete in the state tournament this summer, said Sheriff Robert Arnold.

SROs will collect donations from diners from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Toot's restaurant on Northwest Broad Street.

"We participate in Wings and Rings because we support the Special Olympics athletes in our schools," Sheriff Arnold said.

Special Olympics Coordinator Lou Paschall said the donations will pay the expenses to send about 30 Special Olympian athletes from Rutherford County to the state tournament this summer.

"Competing in the state games gives our Special Olympians different opportunities to represent Rutherford County," Paschall said. "They have an athlete village for different activities, an expanded opening ceremony, a dance and health screenings."

Toot's General Manager Rachel Hunter said Toot's will run the Wings and Rings special of 10 wings or 10 Buffalo fingers with a small onion ring for $5.99.

"Over the last 30 years, Toot's has become a staple in Rutherford County," Hunter said. "We've achieved this status by embracing the community and the people who have helped make us the success we are today. Therefore, we love being a part of events so special as Wings and Rings."

Special Olympians and volunteers are amazing people the Toot's staff enjoys being around, she said.

"The energy that fills our dining room during the event is magical as the community comes together for such an awesome cause," Hunter said. "We hope we can always be a part of this organization and others that help make our community a better place."
