Gas Stable Over Memorial Day Weekend and Beyond

Gas prices continued to remain relatively stable as millions of Americans hit the road for the Memorial Day weekend. Overall, the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline during the Memorial Day holiday weekend was $3.64, 2 cents less than last year's holiday average of $3.66. The holiday weekend average for a gallon of gas in the Southeast was $3.42, the exact same as last year. Here in Murfreesboro, some discounters were offering regular gas for $3.13 per gallon.

“Motorists who traveled during the holiday weekend enjoyed stable gas prices," said Jessica Brady, AAA spokeswoman, The Auto Club Group. “This week looks to be another relatively stable week at the pump."

The cost for a barrel of oil fell slightly last week as well and closed at $94.15 on the New York Mercantile Exchange — $1.87 less than the week prior.

The national average price of regular unleaded gasoline is $3.63, 2 cents less than last week. Florida’s average of $3.47 and Tennessee's average of $3.27 remain unchanged from last week. Some Murfreesboro discounters had regular gas for $3.13.  Georgia’s average of $3.47 increased 2 cents from last week.
