"Denim and Diamonds" at the Readyville Mill was a great dinner and fundraiser for Murfreesboro's Greenhouse Ministries on Saturday night (11/16/2013).

Founders Cliff and Jane Sharp told how they knew the door opening to helping was through food, but their goal was to help offer GED, computer classes and improve job skills for at risk members of our community. For the past 30-years this couple have expanded the services offered by Greenhouse Ministries.

The night was filled with discoveries of new talents from old friends. (above photo) Cliff Sharp shared his singing talents. Then Rutherford County Trustee Teb Batey did a fantastic job as the auctioneer, complete with chant and rhythm (photo below).

Great food, especially the scrumptious desserts, kept everyone in a party mood. Then Johnny B and the Balladeers conducted a twist contest (see photo below)

As their website indicated, the Sharp's began serving Murfreesboro through their work in the Franklin Heights federal housing project.

At Franklin Heights, Cliff and Jane noticed a gap in services to single moms and the working poor.  These groups struggled to meet the basic daily needs of their families but worked full-time and made too much money to qualify for any assistance from government programs.  That's when they started Greenhouse Ministries to serve those who were being overlooked and underserved.

Greenhouse Ministries serves everyone without qualification.  The nonprofit does not ask income questions, nor does it base benefits on employment.  The goal is to serve whoever walks through the doors with love and respect.
