Groundbreaking for new Murfreesboro City School

Murfreesboro's newest elementary school will be located on the corner of Veterans Pkwy and St. Andrews Drive. The groundbreaking ceremony for the new Murfreesboro City School will take place next month.

Spokesperson of the schools Lisa Trail told WGNS the event will be held on Tuesday afternoon, July 17th. The groundbreaking will be at 5pm.

The new school marks the 13th city school.

The new two-story elementary school will be built to serve 1,000 students and will help relieve overcrowding at Overall Creek, Scales Elementary and Cason Lane Academy on the growing West side of Murfreesboro. It will be constructed on a 23 acre.

Johnson+Bailey Architects has estimated the cost of construction at $27.8 million. Total project costs, including land, streets, utilities, architect fees, furnishings and other items is $33 million.
