A previously arrested suspect who allegedly ran from Murfreesboro Detectives during a traffic stop now faces an additional charge after a nearby witness saw him drop a handgun while fleeing. A citizen in the area told police he saw the traffic stop unfold and observed Malik J. Armstrong run from police. The witness said that he heard something metal fall to the ground and later found a handgun in the area of Spring Valley Apartments where the man was said to be running through a parking lot.

Detectives collected the weapon and questioned Armstrong. The suspect evidently admitted to police that he threw the gun while he was running from Detective Gann. As a result, he was charged with “Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.”

The original charges against Armstrong deal with drugs and the failure to appear in court.
