High Speed Chase on I-24

The search is on for a suspect who led the Tennessee Highway Patrol on a high speed chase through Coffee County into Rutherford County. A suspect, driving a silver Lexus SUV, was clocked at over 100 miles per hour in a work zone at exit 116 on westbound I-24 around 5 a.m. A pursuit reached speeds of 120 miles per hour.

Additional troopers along with deputies from the Rutherford County Sheriff's Department and officers from Murfreesboro Police Department aided in the pursuit. THP deployed spike strips at exit 81, South Church Street, here in Rutherford County. The driver went off the road and into the grass, got out of the vehicle and ran on foot.

A search for the suspect continues. He is described as an African-American male, around 20-to-30-years old, between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10 inches tall and could be injured as blood was found in the vehicle.
