Homeless Man Killed By Train In Murfreesboro

A homeless man in Murfreesboro was struck and killed by a CSX freight train around 7:00 o'clock Sunday morning (10/18/2015). The man was said to have been wearing headphones while walking down the tracks near South Church Street, close to Middle Tennessee Boulevard.

27-Year old Austin Sienk from Utah was killed in the accident. His body came to rest beneath a column that was spray painted, "We are the Children of Israel."

The train was heading south to Florida.

Report from the MPD:

"On 10-18-15 at 0715 Officers responded to Seals Way and South Church Street in reference to a fatality involving a pedestrian/train. The investigation revealed that a homeless male, later identified as Austin Sienk, was walking down the middle of the railroad tracks when he was struck by the train. The train engineer and conductor told investigators that the subject appeared to be wearing headphones and did not appear to hear them repeatedly blowing the train horn or the noise from the brakes."

"Mr. Sienk was pronounced deceased on the scene by EMS personnel and was transported to the Medical Examiner's Office were an autopsy will be conducted. Next of kin was contacted and notified of the death."
