MTSU's Connie Huddleston is the new president of the Women in Higher Education in Tennessee professional development organization.

Huddleston, coordinator for MTSU's College of Liberal Arts, was serving as second vice president and professional development coordinator before she was elected president during the group's annual conference at MTSU in October. Huddleston will serve a two-year post that began Nov. 1.

"Women in Higher Education in Tennessee was organized 35 years ago and is still going strong," Huddleston said. "It is our mission to provide opportunities for members in higher education to engage in cultivating their personal and professional potential."

"And, our vision is to empower women, advocate professional growth, provide career opportunities and develop community partnerships. I look forward to my tenure as president."

Huddleston takes over for outgoing president Dr. Jewell Green Winn, executive director for international programs and chief diversity officer at Tennessee State University in Nashville.

Huddleston, a 30-year veteran of MTSU and an alumna, holds a bachelor's degree from her alma mater and is working toward a master's in training and development. Her work as coordinator engages a wide range of offices on campus in organizing conferences, lectures, workshops and any other events in the College of Liberal Arts, and she serves as co-editor of the College of Liberal Arts Magazine.

She has developed a Lifelong Learning Program in Liberal Arts that consists of a four-day program in May, bringing adult learners back to campus for classes with no tests or homework. Huddleston is also active in serving on the Holocaust Studies Conference as co-chair, university marketing committee, and the Windham Lecture Series Committee.
