The National Weather Service has issued an ICE Storm WARNING for Rutherford County and much of the mid-state. It will go into effect at noon Friday until 9am Saturday.

A period of snowfall will begin midday Friday, with accumulations of one-to-two inches. That will be followed by an extended period of freezing rain. Accumulations of freezing rain are expected to be around 1/2-inch. That will accumulate on top of what is still on trees and power lines.

The NWS said the icing will be significant and likely damaging heavy freezing rain.

The good news is temperatures on Saturday will warm up considerably to transition it to plain rain. However, due to the amount of rainfall coupled with ice and snow melt, there could be some localized flooding.
