In Murfreesboro and beyond, children ages 7 to 13 are more likely to be sexually abused

The National Center for Victims of Crime report that children between the ages of 7 and 13 are most vulnerable to child sex abuse. Those statistics are seen in Rutherford County as well.

About 1.6% of children between the ages of 12 and 17 were victims of sexual abuse. That amounts to about sixteen children out of every 1,000, according to the Bureau of Justice.

Studies prove that children who have experienced prolonged sexual abuse usually develop low self-esteem, a feeling of worthlessness and an abnormal view of sex.
