Sadly, suicide is on the increase--especially among young persons. Officer Daniel Parkhurst was sent to the South Church Street bridge over the railroad tracks. A person was sitting on the edge, preparing to jump. Others were unsuccessful in their efforts to change the person's mind. After a few minutes, Officer Parkhurst was able to build a rapport and persuaded the would-be jumper that life was important. In a short time, the person climbed off the bridge and stepped into a waiting ambulance.
