'Boro Offers Citizens Fire Academy

The Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department is accepting applications through Sept. 12 for the 10th session of the Citizens Fire Academy. The academy will be held from 6-9 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 20-Nov. 1, skipping Oct. 4 due to the fall break of area schools.  The cost to attend the academy is $35. Candidates must be at least 18, sign a hold-harmless agreement and must commit to missing no more than one class.  Subjects scheduled for discussion or hands-on experience will include a fire engine ride, CPR training, fire prevention techniques, use of departmental turnout firefighting clothing and a self-contained breathing apparatus. Also included will be an ability test and visits to the department’s stations.  Applications for the six-week course are available at the MFRD Administration office at 220 N.W. Broad St., city fire stations or online at murfreesborotn.gov.
