State Mailing Boat Registration Reminders Out

There are more than 250,000 motor and sail boats in the state required to post registration numbers. Those numbers act like a license plate for boats, and the state agency responsible for enforcing boating safety is now experimenting with a mail campaign to get more of those boats on the water and more money to the state.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is mailing out renewal forms to boaters who had a number in the past but let it expire. The renewal invitation touts the fun and adventure of being on the water.

TWRA spokesman Betsy Woods says boating is a major economic impact in the state, bringing in recreation/tourism dollars to many areas whose chief asset is a local river or large lake.
