The Parent Academy of the Rutherford County Schools

Rutherford County Schools is now taking registrations for the upcoming Parent Academy. Please note that parents must register in order to receive a free lunch at the event so that the district knows how much food is needed.

Parents can register now through Labor Day (Sept. 5). To register, simply go to the RCS website, www.rcschools.net and complete three short questions, or call (615) 893-5812.

Parent Academy will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24, at Siegel High School, Smyrna High School and Rockvale Middle School from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Several parent-focused sessions will be offered including:

 Understanding Special Education and IEPs

  • High School 101(understanding pathways, Career and Technical Education courses, Dual credit opportunities, etc.)
  • How to use online textbooks
  • Simple ways for parents to help their children be successful (homework/study skills for parents)
  • How to help your children with elementary math/reading
  • How to read and use standards-based report cards (K-2)
  • Understanding testing and assessments
  • How to combat bullying in our schools
  • How to find financial aid for college
  • Tips for parents about keeping children healthy
