Murfreesboro, Tenn.   Murfreesboro’s office of the Tennessee Small Business Development Center (TSBDC) has announced a new advertising campaign to draw attention to the resources available for small businesses and entrepreneurs in the counties of Bedford, Cannon, Coffee, Giles, Hickman, Lawrence, Lewis, Lincoln, Marshall, Maury, Moore, Perry, Rutherford and Wayne. The center, which operates in partnership with Middle Tennessee State University, points to the recent challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic as cause to launch the campaign, ensuring the local business community is aware of tools available to help them navigate the extraordinary circumstances

“MTSU is privileged to be able to offer the wealth of expertise and support, essentially at no cost, through our dedicated TSBDC staff as they assist small businesses in applying for and accessing needed coronavirus relief funds to keep these businesses vibrant and strong,” says Dr. Sidney A. McPhee, President of Middle Tennessee State University

While COVID-19 might have motivated the new campaignTSBDC has a long history of supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs across the state. In the more than 30 years of its existence, TSBDC has assisted hundreds of thousands of Tennessee businesses, from manufacturers, to retailers, to service providers, and entrepreneurs who have a business idea. Murfreesboro’s TSBDC Service Center provides myriad services for entrepreneurs to take advantage of free confidential counseling as well as training seminars, both public and private, on many business-related topics.

“The classes we teach, the online content we offer, and the individualized consultation we tailor to the needs of each client’s specific situation allows new business owners to build their company on a strong foundation,” says Chris Swoner, Center Director. “These same offerings support seasoned business owners in addressing their local business ecosystems in new and dynamic ways, helping ensure they remain relevant in our ever-changing world.”

Local businesses such as Apples Gone Wild have taken full advantage of the TSBDC’s business resources in the development of their business. Prior to owner Donna Kessler’s successful purchase of a custom, hand-made gourmet caramel apple confectionary, the TSBDC was able to assist her with gathering the information she would need to make a reasonable offer and secure financing

“TSBDC has been an invaluable resource I would have paid for -but it is a free service,” says Kessler. “I am fortunate that I found them and will continue to use their services and knowledge.
