Riverdale ended a nine-year losing streak to Blackman with a 21-14 win Friday night. The Backyard Brawl lived up to its name. The visiting Warriors took the opening drive down and scored on a pass from quarterback Jameson Holcomb to C.J. Johnson:

They'd score again in the second quarter on a one-yard plunge by Cade Hewitt, set up by a 45-yard pass by Holcomb, who was 8-for-8, 131 yards and a TD. But it was toward the end of the half when the junior went out of the game and didn't return due to a hand injury.

The Blaze did score with 2:19 left in the first half on a pass from Drew Beam to Ben Marshall to cut the Warrior's lead in half:

Hewitt was called on in the second half to lead Riverdale at quarterback with the Holcomb injury. He went 4-for-8 passing for 66-yards and this touchdown to Alex Mitchell late in the third quarter:

Blackman was able to make it a one score game early in the fourth quarter on a Beam to Andrew Hudson-Jackson 8-yard pass. He had around 100-yards rushing for the Blaze.

Riverdale in the end was able to get some key conversions on their last drive and hold off Blackman.

It was the Warrior's first win over their rival since 2011. They improve to 5-1 on the season and in a three way tie for first place in the region. Blackman drops to 1-5 and 1-2 in the region, which is a three-way tie for fourth.

The Warriors host Siegel next Friday night while Blackman travels to Oakland. That game will be on WGNS State Farm Prep Sports.
