The Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce reports that the Governor of Tennessee has announced that restrictions on businesses are being lifted: Governor Bill Lee announced that he is repealing all coronavirus-related restrictions on businesses and gatherings in 89 (including Rutherford) of the 95 Tennessee counties.

That being said, Governor Lee will extend the state of emergency, originally declared on March 12, for another 30 days provided it remains in place at the federal level. This will allow county mayors to impose mask mandates, though Rutherford County does not have one currently in place.

The local chamber also reports that the county's unemployment percentage is lower than the State unemployment rate of 8.6%. An encouraging sign is the gradual decrease in claims, Rutherford County reported 9.3% in July. Our COVID peak was at 16.7% in April with pre-COVID at 2.4%.
