COVID-19 unemployment claims seem to be on a downward trend that has continued for the past 3 weeks in Tennessee.

The most recent week ending on October 24th showed that the number of newly filed unemployment claims came in at 7,770. The previous week ending on October 17th had 9,873 new unemployment claims recorded. Before that, 10,145 new unemployment claims were filed in Tennessee during the week that ended on October 10, 2020.

Currently, there are 70,982 Tennesseans receiving unemployment benefits during the COVID Pandemic. That number is down considerably compared to the week ending on May 9th, which peaked at just over 325,000 residents receiving unemployment deposits.

Nearly 900-thousand people have filed for unemployment benefits in Tennessee since March 15, 2020, due to the pandemic.

In Rutherford County, 395 fewer residents are receiving unemployment benefits when compared to the week prior. When broken down further, 3,604 people received unemployment payments during the week that ended on October 17th in Rutherford County. During the following week that ended on October 24, 2020, 3,209 residents in Rutherford County received unemployment deposits due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
