“The Child Advocacy Center is excited to announce our annual event to celebrate Child Abuse Prevention Month—the Hometown Heroes Walk for Children,” said director Sharon De Boer.

“Cancelling events has been the new normal this year,” continued De Boer.  “Our Board of Directors and staff are closely watching infection rates and vaccination rates and crossing our fingers and saying a few prayers.  The Board will vote at the end of March whether this will be in in-person event, virtual walk, or a hybrid event with some participants participating in-person and others walking in their neighborhood.”

Hometown Heroes Walk for Children will be held on Friday, April 30, 2021 in Murfreesboro.  Registration will start at 10:45 a.m., speakers at 11:30 a.m., and the walk will begin at 12:00 noon.  This FREE event will conclude at the Child Advocacy Center, located at 1040 Samsonite Blvd., Murfreesboro, TN.  More details to follow as the Hometown Heroes Planning Committee is finalizing the details.

WHAT DOES THE CAC DO?

The Child Advocacy Center works as a multidisciplinary team with Department of Children’s Services, law enforcement, and the District Attorney’s Office to respond to child abuse, child sexual abuse, and drug endangered children cases.  DCS protects children.  Law enforcement investigates the crime and arrests perpetrators.  The District Attorney’s Office aggressively prosecutes offenders.  While the Child Advocacy Center interviews child victims, assists families, provides crisis intervention services, and helps children and families heal from the trauma.

“When you partner with the Child Advocacy Center, you are supporting child abuse intervention and prevention services for children and families,” said De Boer.  “In the last 20 years, the Child Protective Investigative Team has worked together to investigate and prosecute 16,000 child abuse cases, assisted over 24,000 individuals, and trained over 12,000 people how to protect children from child sexual abuse.”
