The numbers of those who are homeless is growing in Murfreesboro, along with the age of those who are homeless

Homelessness continues to plague the streets of Rutherford County and the numbers of those who lack a place to call home are getting older. Ed Grimes with the Murfreesboro Rescue Mission told WGNS NEWS…

U.S. Census numbers for Rutherford County show that 10.8% of our residents are 65-years of age or older. That causes concern for non-profits that work to help those who face homelessness because increased age equals increased needs for medical care.  

Grimes commented that Murfreesboro has yet to see their homeless population sore to the heights of skid row, but that could change…



Murfreesboro continues to monitor the homeless situation through the Housing, Health and Human Services Alliance of Rutherford County, an alliance made up of over 60-nonprofits that serve those experiencing a housing crisis in our community.

The most recent homeless count in Rutherford County shows that the majority of 322 people counted as homeless on January 27, 2020,  live in Murfreesboro. Of that number, 48% are without shelter.
