As we progress into the summer months, it's important to remember to always keep a watchful eye on our children who enjoy swimming. The Tennessee Department of Health reports that drowning is the leading cause of injury and death for children ages one to four.

Sadly, a 12-year-old boy died in a Middle Tennessee area pool this past week. The child was found unconscious in an apartment swimming pool last Tuesday night at Berkley Hills Apartments in Madison, Tennessee.

Demarious Harris-Evans was playing with three friends in the pool when the other children noticed him under water in the deep end. The three friends pulled him out of the water. No adults present and the children didn't live at the apartment complex.

Harris-Evans was transported to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital where he died this past Friday. Metro Nashville Police report that his death appears to have been accidental.

Nationwide, three children die every day as a result of drowning.
