Jail Escapees from Coffee County Free on Memorial Day for Short Period of Time

A pair of inmates who briefly escaped from the Coffee County Jail did not enjoy an extended Memorial Day on Monday. The two teens are already back in custody after tasting freedom for only a couple of hours.

A 4:30 a.m., an inmate was being taken to have his blood sugar checked before breakfast. During the process, two other inmates, Adam Dujuan Winton and Jeremy Ryan Tate, both 19, ran out the door and escaped, according Cpt. Pam Freeman.

The inmates jumped a fence and ran away, but officers caught up with them after a couple of hours. According to Capt. Freeman, Winton was hiding at his mother’s house and Cates was found in a creek near the jail. According to jail records, Winton had served his time of 60 days on a court order, but a hold was placed on him by Florida for a charge there. Cates was in jail for violation of probation, burglary and possession of burglary tools.
