Former Rutherford County Commissioner Jeff Jordan was sworn in as the newest member of the Rutherford County School Board. The oath of office was administered by Juvenile Court Judge Donna Scott Davenport just before her 9am docket on Monday.

Jordan, a retired county schools teacher and assistant principal, was picked by the commission last week to fill a vacant seat on the school board for the next two years.

Jordan served as chairman of the commission's Health and Education Committee for five years and in that position became well-versed on the school board's budget, which is now upwards of $308 million to fund a system with some 42,000 students.
