Just Prior, During and After Murfreesboro Storm Tuesday, Emergency Workers Had Increase in Calls

It all happened so quickly on Tuesday afternoon. A brief storm moved in that resulted in high winds, wrecks and hail. In the downtown area, a utility line was downed which resulted in a power outage in the area of the Rutherford County Square shortly after 1:00, Tuesday afternoon.

During the power outage, Murfreesboro fire crews had to respond to not only a downed power line, but also a vehicle fire on North Front Street and a Westbrooks Tower resident who was trapped in an elevator. Apparently the woman became trapped in the elevator when the power went out. The woman was said to be stuck between floors. No one was seriously injured in the storm that swept through Murfreesboro, but it did keep residents on their toes!

After the storms had passed, a rollover accident was reported on Baker Road and then, Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue received yet another call in regards to someone being stuck in an elevator. This time the elevator call was at the Murfreesboro City Hall. It is important to note, prior to today, WGNS has never heard an emergency elevator call via dispatch and the local police scanner frequencies in Murfreesboro.

To make matters more confusing, just prior to the storm there was a motorcycle wreck and a construction accident. In the construction accident, a man fell 25-feet onto concrete. His condition is not known, but by the time the ambulance arrived the victim was said to be alert and speaking. The condition of the motorcycle accident victim is not known at this time.

Needless to say, each event was handled with the precise expertise of our local emergancy officials.
