Incumbents Madelyn Scales Harris and Rick LaLance were returned by Murfreesboro voters to the city council while newcomer Ronnie Martin took the third seat.

The Murfreesboro City Council will remain a six-member body. At their Thursday meeting, members voted down a measure to appoint someone to fill the vacant seat of the late Vice Mayor Doug Young.

On Thursday evening, the Murfreesboro City Council named Councilwoman Scales Harris the vice mayor. She will be on WGNS this coming Tuesday morning at 8:10AM.

There will be a new Murfreesboro City Councilman. Rick LaLance received the most votes of any of the council candidates seeking the office. LaLance received 24.6% of the vote (4,962). He was followed by incumbent Doug Young with 21.9% (4,420) and incumbent Madelyn Scales Harris with 19.3% (3,893).
