Murfreesboro voters turned out in greater number this year to elect a new mayor and to fill three seats on the council and school board. Rutherford County Election Administrator Nicole Lester says 7,927 people voted this year.
Murfreesboro voters overwhelmingly voted yes on a referendum to move the Murfreesboro municipal elections to August instead of April. The vote was 85.7% to move the election to 14.2% to leave it in April.
Included on the April 15 city election ballot for Mayor, City Council and City School Board, voters will also have the opportunity to vote whether or not they would prefer future city elections be moved to coincide with county, state, and federal office elections in August.
