Siegel was almost a victim of its previous success last season, which saw the Stars finishing a disappointing 3-7. Siegel faced the always tough District 7-AAA schedule, not to mention non-conference games against Ooltewah, McCallie and Science Hill.
Smyrna's football team is looking to take the next step in 2015 after exiting the playoffs in the first round the previous two years. "The last two years we've gotten beaten in the first round, and our goal is to not let that happen," said Smyrna coach Matt Williams.
Stewarts Creek's growing pains have been many and well documented the past two seasons on the football field. The Red Hawks won only one game in their first year of existence in 2013 and managed just victories last season.
Fred Shambaugh brought a dynamic, up-tempo offense to Middle Tennessee Christian School last season, and it was an instant hit. The Cougars reached uncharted waters, going 9-2 and winning a league championship.
The transition period between a new coach and players has been quite smooth for Kevin Creasy and the Oakland High School football team. Creasy replaced Thomas McDaniel (now at Christian Brothers) last spring, and obviously brought a different philosophy with him from Trousdale County where he won one state title.
Riverdale got back into the postseason mode last season after missing the playoffs in 2013. The Warriors finished with an impressive 8-3 record before falling in the second round of the TSSAA playoffs to Blackman for a second time.
Youth will certainly be served on the Eagleville High School football team this season. In fact, of the 57 players on the Eagles roster, 30 are freshmen and 13 are sophomores.
Blackman football will have a new look in a lot of ways this season. Gone is veteran coach Philip Shadowens, who resigned last spring and later hired at Blount County.
A "buzz" has surrounded La Vergne High School football in the offseason based on how the Wolverines were able to finish the 2014 season. La Vergne defeated Siegel 56-23 in its final regular-season game to earn a No. 7 seed and make the playoffs.
