A Thursday night fire on I-24 between Almaville Road and I-840 (mile-marker 73) forced eastbound motorists (going toward Chattanooga) to pull to the roadside.
On Thursday evening a big rig hit the "New Salem Highway, Exit 80" sign that is supported across all eastbound lanes of I-24. The steel structure dropped to the ground in the land along the right lane and stopped traffic flow toward Chattanooga.
Here's an update on the tragic death of a highway worker who was killed Thursday night here in Murfreesboro. 31-year old John M. Gray, III was killed when hit by a vehicle on I-24 eastbound, near the Joe B. Jackson Parkway exit.
