La Vergne Board of Aldermen candidates to talk on October 18th

Voters will get a chance to hear from La Vergne Board of Aldermen candidates on the November 8 ballot in a voter forum on Tuesday, October 18, at the La Vergne City Hall, 5093 Murfreesboro Rd. Hosted by the League of Women Voters in partnership with the City of La Vergne, the forum will also be broadcast, live-streamed, and available for later viewing.

Four candidates are competing for two seats on the Board of Aldermen. All are confirmed to be in attendance. Candidates will introduce themselves and respond to a moderator's questions on a timed basis. A pool of questions for the moderator's usage are compiled by a League committee using citizen input.

Audience members should be seated 10 minutes prior to the forum start time. No partisan materials can be on display in the forum.

The forum will be televised live on La Vergne TV Comcast Channel 3 and U-verse Channel 99. The meeting will also be available in Flash format on the live web stream of La Vergne TV. After the live broadcast, the program will also be available online through the "YouTube La Vergne" section on the La Vergne website at lavergnetn.gov.

The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. The League attempts to schedule forums for all contested general elections. In order to assure impartiality and comply with FCC rules for televised events, a majority of candidates must agree to participate in order for the League to go forward with a forum.
