(La Vergne, Tenn.) The City of La Vergne was named one of the safest places in the state of Tennessee.

The study, conducted by Alarms.org, calculated the crime rate in La Vergne per 1,000 to be 977 using 2018 statistics. La Vergne reported 157 violent crimes, 820 non-violent crimes, and 75 law enforcement employees (sworn and non-sworn).

"I am thrilled to hear La Vergne was once again named one of the safest cities in the state," says Mayor Jason Cole. "Our police department works hard every day to keep our streets safe and stop crime before it happens."

The study reviewed the 2018 FBI Uniform Crime Report statistics. They eliminated states that did not submit a complete crime report or cities with populations less than 10,000. Alarms.org computed the total number of crimes reported by each city by adding violent crimes and property crimes then calculated the crime rate per 1,000 population. They also determined police adequacy by looking at total crimes / number of police employees. The two numbers were combined to create a safety score for each city.

"We have a tremendous team of professional officers and staff who work hard to put together strong cases and keep everyone safe," says Chief Mike Walker. "We do a great deal of training to keep everyone up to date on best practices and crime solving methods."

Brentwood was named the safest city, followed by Germantown in West Tennessee and Spring Hill in middle Tennessee.
