La Vergne will be filled with the sound of fireworks and upbeat music this year during its third annual 4th of July celebration. The event will begin at 6:00 p.m. on July 4 and is open to the public.

The free event, held at Veterans Memorial Park on Floyd Mayfield Drive off of Murfreesboro Road, will feature a bounce house and other games for children. Additionally vendors will be on-hand to sell hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, drinks, pizza, and ice cream.

There will be a free concert featuring Missy Garnett and the Two Dollar Pistols, a high energy show with a mix of contemporary country, classic country, southern rock, classic rock & more!

The fireworks display will start at dusk.

“Last year we had a great turnout and an amazing event,” said Mayor Senna Mosley.  “La Vergne is so much more than just a bedroom community. It is one in which families, friends, and neighbors can celebrate important holidays together in the comfort of our own town.  We hope our citizens bring a blanket and lawn chairs, listen or sing along to some great music, and watch the spectacular professional fireworks show in the spirit of friendship and community.”

City ordinance allows for the discharge of common fireworks as follows:

June 21 - July 7, 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m.

July 4, 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 a.m.

Last year fireworks were banned because of the elevated potential for fires due to drought conditions.  This year Assistant Fire Chief Rick McCormick urges people to continue to use caution, “Sometimes it only takes one ember landing in just the right place to spark a major fire. And those embers can smolder for hours before igniting into a full-fledged fire.  Please be very careful with your fireworks.”
