League of Women Voters of Murfreesboro/Rutherford County to discuss Money in Politics

The League of Women Voters of Murfreesboro/Rutherford County is inviting the public to a presentation and panel discussion of Money in Politics this Tuesday evening, August 11, at the Heritage Center, 225 W. College Street. Social time and refreshments begin at 6:00 PM and the program begins at 6:30.

The program will consider how history and recent Supreme Court rulings inform the issue of political campaigns as protected speech under the First Amendment.

Panelists will be Ken Paulson and Kent Syler. Paulson is dean of the College of Mass Communication at Middle Tennessee State University and president of the Newseum Institute's First Amendment Center. He formerly edited USA Today and led the Freedom Forum and Newseum. Syler is Special Projects Coordinator of the Albert Gore Research Center at Middle Tennessee State University. A well-known political strategist and political science professor, he served as Chief of Staff to U. S. Rep. Bart Gordon for over 25 years.
