Legislation Giving Sheriff Workhouse Oversight Likely Dead

Legislation allowing Rutherford County's sheriff to take over the Correctional Work Center appears to be dead. Sam Stockard reports in the Murfreesboro Post State Sen. Bill Ketron is not planning to advance a bill initiated by Rep. Rick Womick. The bill would give Sheriff Robert Arnold control over the workhouse. Ketron aid Darlene Schlicher says the senator wants the sheriff and county mayor to work together to come to a determination on their own. He says he hopes the two can resolve the matter without legislation. The Rutherford County Commission obviously feels the same way. The steering committee is set to consider a resolution opposing Rep. Womick's bill.
