Local attorney and parent Amanda Moore announces her candidacy for Murfreesboro City Schools Board of Education's August 2 city-wide, at-large election.

"As an active parent and school volunteer for the past eight years, I am excited to offer my skills and voice to the school board. My service as a PTA Board member allowed me to respond to parents and teachers and help find solutions to their problems," Moore said. "I want to make this commitment on the district level and advocate for students and teachers across the city."

Moore plans to use her legal background to fine-tune school board policies. She aims to ensure fairness for the rich diversity of students in the city school system and to advocate for students with varying abilities or in difficult economic situations. She intends to listen to parents and teachers and put her experience to work to improve our public schools.

"Amanda Moore is an articulate, compassionate, sharp woman," said Collier Smith, who is retiring from the School Board. "She holds a Yale Law degree, is a MCS parent and works for the Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law, meaning she has heart and will understand the needs of our rapidly growing school district. I enthusiastically endorse her campaign and look forward to seeing her do good work for our schools."

The daughter of public school teachers, Moore is married to Jason Vance, a librarian at MTSU, where she formerly taught. They have two children: Ada, a 5th grader at Discovery School, and Henry, a 7th grader at Thurman Francis Arts Academy.

Moore is a charter member of the Middle Tennessee Lawyers' Association for Women and took part in the Commonwealth Society at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. She is on the board of the Appalachian Citizens' Law Center and served on the board of the Stones River Watershed Association. Moore and her family attend St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

The election to fill three seats on the Murfreesboro City Schools School Board is August 2.
