Local Leader David Kious Died Tuesday

Murfreesboro has lost another community leader. 67-year old David Wayne Kious, a local attorney, passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2016, as a result of cancer.

He was a founding partner of Middle Tennessee Title and Southern Title Services, a founding partner of Kious, Rodgers, Barger, Holder & Kious, PLLC, along with Lawyers Land & Title Services, LLC.

Kious was a member of the Rutherford/Cannon County Bar Association, founding member and past president of the MTSU Chapter of the Kappa Alpha Order, past president of the Murfreesboro Optimist Club, past president of Stones River Country Club, past president and treasurer of the Oaklands Historic House Museum, member of the St. Thomas Rutherford Society, member of the Rutherford County Sportsman's Club, graduate of the Class of 1989 Leadership Rutherford program, and a long-time member and elder of the Central Christian Church.

David was the recipient of the Rotary Foundation's Paul Harris Fellow award in recognition of his exceptional service to the community, the 1998 MTSU Honor Roll for his generosity to the MTSU Foundation, and a recent recipient of the Alive Hospice Heart of Hospice Award.

He was born in Normal, Illinois, but spent most of his life here in Murfreesboro. He attended Mitchell-Neilson Elementary School, Central High School and received his undergraduate degree from MTSU. Kious' law degree was from the University of Tennessee.

David Wayne Kious is survived by his wife Pam Parsons Kious; son, James David "J.D." Kious of Murfreesboro; daughters, Lindsey Ann Kious of Atlanta, GA, Shannon Smith and her husband Jay of Murfreesboro, Allison Harris and her husband Nat of Oxford, MS, and Erin Cabell and her husband Thomas of Brentwood, TN; sister, Suellen Jones of Bear, DE; grandchildren, Tom and Lily Smith, Nat and Harper Harris, Owen, Gabe, Edie and Nora Cabell; parents-in-law, Myers and Ann Nora Parsons of Murfreesboro. He was the son of the late Donald Wayne and Dorothy Booker Kious.

Funeral services will be 10:00 o'clock Friday morning (7/1/2016) at First Presbyterian Church in Murfreesboro. Rev. Dr. John Hinkle, Jr. and Pastor Steven Odom will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Memorials in memory of Mr. Kious can be made to the Oaklands Historical House, the St. Thomas Rutherford Foundation, or to Central Christian Church.

Visitation will be Thursday (6/30/2016) from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Woodfin Memorial Chapel.
